The design of Grid draws inspiration from the distinctive style of the Xiangxi stilt house, incorporating its concise lines and ridge structure into every detail of the table. The table features a sculptured Hibiscus mutabilis, a symbol of grace, modesty, and beauty in Chinese culture, as its main decoration.
What sets Grid apart from other tables is its storage function. By simply pushing and pulling, the table reveals hidden storage space, allowing for a clean and tidy living area. Made from high-quality solid wood, Grid not only adds elegance to any space but also provides practical storage solutions.
The realization of Grid involved the use of advanced technology. The sliding cover of the storage compartment is made of solid wood inlaid with glass, creating a visually striking combination of square and round shapes. This fusion perfectly represents the beauty of Chinese new furniture design.
The design team, consisting of Zhao Jian, Liao Pencheng, Bao Liyuan, and other talented individuals, worked on this project from April to August 2018 at Kunming University. Their research and dedication resulted in the creation of a table that seamlessly blends tradition and innovation.
Grid's unique design and functionality have garnered recognition in the design world. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2020. This prestigious award is given to designs that demonstrate excellence in practicality, innovation, and adherence to professional and industrial standards.
Grid is not just a table; it is a testament to the beauty of Chinese design and the ingenuity of its creators. With its combination of traditional aesthetics and modern functionality, Grid is a must-have piece for those who appreciate the fusion of art, architecture, and lifestyle.
